Anti-Israel sentiment is so strong in the Democratic Party that the left does not hesitate to raise the anti-Israel flag. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says that the new defence budget makes the IDF part of the US armed forces. That it is impossible to distinguish between the United States and Israel.
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) came under criticism after claiming that the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) passed by the House of Representatives would “merge parts of our military with the Israel Defense Forces”, prompting accusations that she had distorted what the legislation actually entails.
The dispute centres on Section 219 of the National Defense Authorization Act passed by the House of Representatives, a provision requiring deeper defence integration between the United States and Israel through expanded co-operation on military technology, supply chains, research, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and joint exercises.
On Wednesday, the House of Representatives passed its version of the NDAA for fiscal year 2027 by 219 votes to 206, leaving Section 219 unchanged.
But before the vote, Ocasio-Cortez wrote on X that the NDAA “contains a provision to merge parts of our military with the IDF”.
Ocasio-Cortez represents the new Democrats, who do not hesitate to play a card even when they know it is false.
An interesting convergence arises here, because anti-Israel sentiment is growing on both the left and the right.
“This bill poses an existential threat to US sovereignty and democracy,” she wrote. “Every single member of Congress must vote NO.”
Tucker Carlson thinks the same. So does Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY), who introduced a separate proposal that he was denied permission to put forward. Ro Khanna (D-CA) also voted no.
Both Republicans and Democrats are fishing for anti-Israel votes. That is something new in American politics. The background is that support for Israel and the favouring of Israel are declining.
“It is unacceptable that there is not even a vote,” Khanna wrote on X. “We will continue our work and will not be intimidated by the pro-Israel lobby.”
An opposition to the policy being pursued is thus emerging among both Republicans and Democrats, with more Democrats, and a new centre supporting Israel, led by President Trump.
Several Muslims are taking part in the Democratic Party’s shift to the left, among them Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, a second-generation immigrant who has built a professional career as a physician and epidemiologist, but is radical on Gaza and Israel. This creates sharp divisions.
Add the struggle against communism, and you have a fairly solid majority.
