We asked our Polish commentator Urzula Lach whether it was true that Prime Minister Donald Tusk had tried to prevent the plane carrying President Karol Nawrocki from landing. She replied:
Yes, that is correct. I found where this is stated in Polish sources. Air traffic controllers at Warsaw Military Airport were pressured by someone from the government to divert the President’s plane to Wrocław or Kraków – far away from Warsaw. When they refused to lie about bad weather conditions, the same request was made to the leadership of the Polish Army General Staff. There, too, they were refused, and the generals justified this by pointing out that the President is the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, and it is he who decides where his plane is to land.
I found this in the middle of Tomasz Gdula’s podcast “Polskosc to normalnosc”. He obtained this information from his military sources. In this podcast, he also mentions Stanisław Janecki, who, on the Polska24 podcast, spoke about what they were up to in Warsaw. Both editors are good journalists and trustworthy.
