Iran’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian, has written an open letter to Americans. In it, he states that Iran is not an enemy of the American people. He maintains that the United States has been misled into waging a war on behalf of Israel. This is an argument that some on the right wing in the United States advocate.
In his letter, he writes that portraying Iran as a threat “neither corresponds with historical reality nor with today’s observable facts”.
“Whose interests of the American people does this war actually serve?” he asks. “Is it not also the case that the United States has entered this aggression as a proxy for Israel, influenced and manipulated by that regime?”
NTB refers to the letter, but does not mention the reference to Israel.
Pezeshkian states that Iran has never acted aggressively towards any country, and conveniently avoids mentioning that students held American diplomats captive in their own embassy for 444 days.
