Juliana Baffoe was appointed Norway’s new ambassador to Estonia on Tuesday, 11 August. “We are pleased to announce that the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway, Juliana Baffoe, today presented her diplomatic credentials to the President of Estonia, Alar Karis, and conveyed personal greetings from His Majesty King Harald of Norway,” the Norwegian Embassy in Tallinn wrote in connection with the ceremony.

“We warmly welcome Ambassador Juliana Baffoe to Estonia and wish her every success in her new position. We look forward to continued close and fruitful cooperation between Estonia and Norway. Tere tulemast Eestisse!” the greeting read.

The Embassy has also shared a couple of posts on Instagram, on the account norwayinestoniaofficial. One is quite similar to the one on Facebook, but with an introductory sentence added: “Today marks a special moment in the friendship between Norway and Estonia. #TEAMBaffoe.”

Everything is in English, on both social media platforms.

They have also posted a video featuring the new ambassador. In it, Juliana Baffoe says that the appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter in her life.

She was also mentioned in an Aftenposten article a couple of years ago, about her being one of 11 applicants to become Anniken Huitfeldt’s second-in-command at the embassy in Washington. That recruitment process was cancelled, and the position was advertised again. Baffoe evidently has experience from the embassy in the United States, according to a profile by the Nobel Peace Prize Forum from 2014. There is not much information to be found about Juliana Baffoe. Her own social media profiles are closed to public view, but on LinkedIn she lists a number of professional positions. Nothing about her education or other background. We excerpt:

So we wish Juliana Baffoe the best of luck in her job as ambassador, with a link to the video she has made as the newly appointed ambassador in Tallinn. There she says that she is delighted to embark on her mission as Norway’s official representative in the beautiful country of Estonia. “A country with which we are like-minded, share values, and enjoy good cooperation. Baffoe looks forward to deepening this partnership, and exploring Estonia’s nature, culture and sport,” she says in the video.

VG’s fashion magazine Min Mote produced a 17 May feature this year about Sahfana and the hijab-bunad. She left the Labour Party when, in 2017, she was appointed a special envoy in Jordan for the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She subsequently moved on to the embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, but according to the embassy there, Sahfana Mubarak Ali is now moving on from there, without the embassy announcing what her next step will be. Mubarak is described by the embassy as its special adviser on integration. Here is a photograph in connection with the story, showing the Norwegian Embassy visiting Mogadishu in Somalia on 2 August this year and praising its cooperation with the country.
