Spain’s Minister of Health, Monica Garcia, has asked Donald Trump to mind his own business and refrain from interfering in Spanish internal affairs after he requested the United States Ambassador to Spain to investigate the euthanasia of 25-year-old Noelia Castillo Ramos.
– We ask President Trump and the American government to respect Spain’s sovereignty and not to interfere in our internal affairs. Euthanasia is a lawful and regulated medical service in Spain. We do not accept that foreign governments attempt to politicise or undermine our legislation.
– No grounds for foreign interference
The statement comes after Trump instructed the American embassy in Spain to investigate whether Noelia Castillo Ramos was euthanised in accordance with proper procedure and whether there was pressure or deficiencies in the protection of vulnerable persons.
Furious Spanish Health Minister Monica Garcia has told Donald Trump to stop sticking his nose in Spain’s business over the US-ordered probe into the euthanasia of gang-rape victim Noelia Castillo.

Trump himself has expressed strong concern over the case and has called it “a sad example of what happens when a government, instead of help, offers death as a solution”.
He also criticised Spain for not having brought charges in relation to repeated sexual assaults against Noelia while she was in state care, and criticised the use of euthanasia on persons within psychiatry.

The Spanish government – together with the Spanish left – regards Trump’s initiative as an unacceptable attack on Spanish sovereignty.
A clearly irritated Minister of Health emphasised that the euthanasia was carried out in accordance with applicable law, and that there are no grounds for foreign interference:
– Spain is a serious country … Trump should stop fuelling the international far-right agenda.
The death of Noelia Castillo Ramos has, in addition to placing Spain in a highly unfavourable light internationally, triggered a highly polarised debate:
– What happened to Noelia Castillo Ramos was not euthanasia. It was murder. Pedro Sánchez’s government destroyed her life, and thereafter they offered her death as the only way out. Socialism is a cult of death; it brings only death, writes Patrick O’Jota:
Lo de Noelia Castillo Ramos no fue eutanasia. Fue asesinato. Fue el gobierno de Pedro Sánchez destruyendo su vida y luego ofreciéndole la muerte como única salida.
