The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has asked the American embassy in Madrid to investigate the case of Noelia Castillo Ramos (25), who was euthanised in Spain on 26 March 2026.
According to OKDiario, Trump has personally instructed the embassy to take a closer look at the procedure surrounding Noelia’s death. The American government expresses “serious concern” regarding possible deficiencies in the protection of vulnerable persons under Spain’s euthanasia law.
– There may be reason to believe that “pressure and haste” played a role
A source close to the White House says that Trump is “deeply disturbed” that a young woman with severe trauma following a gang rape and paralysis following a suicide attempt was offered assisted death instead of long-term treatment and support. He reacts in particular to the fact that Noelia is said to have expressed doubt and regret shortly before the procedure, yet was nevertheless euthanised.
Trump is said to have stated that the case raises questions as to whether Spain’s euthanasia law provides sufficient protection for mentally ill and traumatised persons, and that there may be reason to believe that “pressure and haste” played a role.

The American embassy in Madrid has confirmed that it will “follow up the case at the diplomatic level” and has requested further information from the Spanish authorities.
The case has already attracted considerable international attention, and several conservative politicians in the United States and Europe have called for an independent investigation of the euthanasia.
Noelia Castillo Ramos was euthanised despite the fact that her father fought to stop the procedure – and despite the fact that she was not terminally ill, despite the fact that she requested a postponement.
In a handwritten note, Noelia asks that the euthanasia be postponed because she is in a “state of confusion”.
This is the first time that an American president has directly requested an investigation into a euthanasia procedure in another country.
