84-year-old Miriam Lancaster awoke one morning in April 2025 with pain in her lower back. She called for an ambulance, and at the hospital she was offered euthanasia before she was examined, tests taken, and treatment attempted.
According to Miriam and her daughter Jordan Weaver, who was present, she was offered euthanasia before anyone had assessed whether the injury could be healed.
– We would like to offer you death
– I went to Vancouver General Hospital, where I was approached by a young female doctor who began by saying: “We would like to offer you MAiD.”
MAiD stands for Medical Assistance in Dying – Canada’s scheme for medically assisted euthanasia which was legalised in 2016 as a “last resort” – and which has been significantly expanded since then.
Miriam was shocked.
– It was the last thing I thought of. I just wanted to find out why I had such pain in my back – I did not go to the hospital because I wanted to die, she later said in a video interview.
She declined the “offer”.
When you think it can’t get any worse… Canada is now trying to euthanise people for BACK PAIN.

It was established that she had sustained a fracture in the sacrum (korsbenet) – a painful, but fully treatable injury. After one month of rehabilitation and physiotherapy, Miriam was completely recovered. The pain disappeared; she regained mobility and strength.
And then she did what distinguishes her story from thousands of other MAiD stories – something that has become a symbol of the cynicism in Canada’s medical death culture:
In February 2026, she travelled to Guatemala and climbed the volcano Pacaya – an active volcano with a steep ascent and smoking lava flows.

The images of the sprightly 84-year-old at the summit of the volcano have spread and become a testimony to the will to live.
Miriam Lancaster herself summarises it simply:
– I chose life. And life chose me.
Padre Loring states it quite forcefully:
– Euthanasia is camouflaged through language by calling it “a dignified death”. Of course, it would be difficult to call it legalised killing. We must conceal this terrible reality, namely that the laws permit the killing of people.
It is called a dignified death, and that is a lie. To die with dignity means to accept death voluntarily where and when God wills, and above all in God’s grace, knowing that suffering has a redemptive value. Thus, this person who accepts death voluntarily, who accepts God’s will, after having arranged all familial and spiritual matters … that is to die with dignity.
“We kill him so that he shall not suffer”, is the camouflage used when euthanasia is presented. No! So that he shall not suffer, we can provide palliative treatment. But never, never kill the sick. The solution to illness is never to kill the sick.”

Claro, sería muy duro decir asesinato legal. Tenemos que enmascarar esta tremenda realidad de que las leyes permitan asesinar a la gente.
