Sexual harassment by Democrats such as New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Representative Eric Swalwell has finally brought the #MeToo movement to an end.
But this is only one of several recent trends and developments that have left the American people fed up. Slowly but surely, voters are losing confidence in the Democrats. Is this the beginning of the end for the party?
Swalwell is accused by several women of sexual harassment and assault. In addition, he allowed himself to be seduced by the Chinese spy Fang Fang.
There are several examples of the Democrats’ decline, writes Victor Davis Hanson in the New York Post. He focuses on trends that should be well known to regular readers of Document.
We were reminded of the movement’s downfall when it emerged that Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner had a long social-media history of crude and pornographic denigrations of women.
Platner was elected to the Senate nonetheless, even though he bore a tattoo featuring an SS symbol.
SS tattoo no dealbreaker for Democratic Senate candidate in Maine
The downfall of Black Lives Matter is another example of a recurring phenomenon on the left: movements that begin as moral crusades and end as self-parodies.
Virtually everyone in the leadership of BLM has been exposed as a fraudster who became immensely wealthy from the movement’s violent demonstrations and the destruction of property.
The diseased ideology
The same people who toppled statues and set entire city blocks on fire constantly demanded “defund the police”, and Democratic politicians followed through across the United States.
Nor was it particularly motivating for those who remained in the police to arrest criminals, since the theories of “critical race theory” and “critical legal studies” led to no-cost bail. Hundreds of thousands of violent criminals were sent straight back onto the streets. Many of them committed further offences.
America’s supposedly best universities abolished SAT requirements for admission and allowed applicants of the “right” ethnicity to move to the front of the queue, even when their results were far inferior to those of white applicants.
The focus on DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) poisoned university campuses. Then anti-Semitic demonstrators took over after 7 October 2023.
Climate hysteria
The Democrats have led the charge in the struggle against the feared climate changes.
A number of American and international organisations and “experts” have now, mostly quietly, admitted that global warming was never really the existential threat that the left claimed would place “the fate of the planet at stake” within only a decade.
American businesses and households received the bill through the letterbox, just as they did here in Norway and throughout the rest of Europe. Jonas Gahr Støre took the prize when he declared in 2019: “We shall live by saving the climate.”
Mass immigration has only exacerbated the problems. Why does no one point out that moving millions of people from south to north also dramatically increases these feared climate emissions?
Added to this are violence, crime, terrorism and division, along with enormous economic costs that are once again passed on to taxpayers.
Joe Biden threw the borders wide open. In practice, the EU has done the same, and we know the result.
After climate hysteria and open borders, the left became hypnotised by gender ideology.
Trans hysteria was to become the left’s next civil-rights struggle, since it created a new victim group with demands for compensation directed at the guilty traditional majority.
Soon a wave of teenagers began wondering whether they were in fact “trans” and considering whether to undergo a series of harmful treatments.
The indoctrination begins as early as nursery school.
Collective and suicidal madness
Where does this madness come from?
Only the West possesses the resources to finance these circus performances. The principal actors almost always belong to the left and emerge from universities, the media and the bureaucracy.
Politicians on the left, both in the United States and across large parts of Europe, willingly lend their support. The few who dare to resist are vilified, ostracised and risk losing their jobs. Companies that do not wish to participate in the festivities are boycotted and subjected to vandalism by enraged demonstrators.
This is how freedom of speech died. Free expression is transformed into something punishable with the help of Section 185 and the EU’s Digital Services Act, which will affect us Norwegians before long.
We have lost the right to say, write and think what we wish. Erna Solberg was generous enough to say that we still possess “freedom of thought”. It is probably only a matter of time before even such freedom disappears, for to think without being able to speak and discuss is, in reality, almost impossible.
This is how democracy dies, if no one is willing to fight back. But now the resistance movement appears to be growing stronger.
More and more people have had enough
Hope exists, because increasing numbers of people – both in the United States and Europe – no longer listen to climate activists, gender-hysterical demagogues and the racism industry.
Young men in particular saw through the fraudulent claims several years ago, while young women are lagging somewhat behind. One may hope that, for once, they follow in the boys’ footsteps.
The resistance of those who refuse to bend to the left’s indoctrination may be summed up as follows, concludes author Victor Davis Hanson:
“We will no longer allow you to destroy the ancient traditions that ensured our prosperity, security and freedom, and which were handed down to us by generations far better than your own.”
