A child and a woman are seriously injured after a suspected explosion at their home in Tumba in Botkyrka municipality south of Stockholm. This is reported by SVT.

The alarm was raised at 23.42, and when emergency services arrived on the scene, the terraced house was on fire.

“Our assessment is that something has exploded inside the terraced house, we don’t yet know what, and that it has then started to burn,” says Anna Westberg, press spokesperson for the Stockholm police.

The emergency services managed to confine the fire to the apartment and prevent it from spreading to the other apartments in the townhouse, and by 1.30am the fire was extinguished.

“The property in question is heavily damaged by fire,” says Westberg.

According to information from the emergency services, a man and a woman with two minor children live in the home.
“We believe that the woman and one of the children are seriously injured, but that’s all I can say at the moment,” says Anna Westberg.

The residence has been cordoned off for forensic investigations. Swedish police have initiated a preliminary investigation into aggravated vandalism with flammable and explosive goods.
“We believe that someone else caused something to explode, and it is possible that the description of the offence will change during the course of the investigation,” Anna Westberg from the police commented to SVT.

As of early Monday morning, no one had been arrested in the case.
