North Sea oil production was raised during the press briefing at the White House on Wednesday, and Trump revealed that he has asked the new Prime Minister to do as Norway does and produce oil, rather than buying it expensively from Norway.

“You have access to the North Sea, but you buy your oil from Norway, which also gets it from the North Sea,” Donald Trump told the British television channel GB News during a press conference at the White House on Thursday.

Trump said he has recommended that Burnham change course.

Trump says he has spoken with the United Kingdom’s new Prime Minister Andy Burnham about oil production.

“He said one good thing, and that was that he wants to open up more oil production in the North Sea. If he does it properly, you will become a rich country,” Trump said.

Trump showed that he is fully aware that the Norwegian state is swimming in money, which the United Kingdom is not.

The American President pointed out that Norway has several trillion Norwegian kroner in the bank as a result of its oil revenues.

“You do not need to pay Norway three times what it costs them to extract the oil. You have your own oil,” Trump said. (NTB)

The British oil industry has urged Andy Burnham to change course and permit the development of the Rosebank oil and gas field west of Shetland. His new Foreign Secretary, Ed Milliband, is a fanatical opponent of oil production.

Rosebank is operated by Equinor.
