King Haakon has given his pledge to govern in accordance with the Constitution.
On Tuesday, 1 September, at 1.00 p.m., the new King took the oath before the Storting.
– I promise and swear that I will govern the Kingdom of Norway in accordance with its Constitution and laws, so help me God, the Almighty and Omniscient.
Thus reads the oath taken by King Haakon.
The taking of the oath comes four days after King Harald died.
Norway’s new King expressed the hope that he would be able to continue the good relationship between the Royal House and the Storting.
The King travelled in an open car from the Royal Palace to the Storting, took the oath and then gave a short address to the members of the Storting.
– At this first meeting between the people’s elected representatives and me as King of Norway, I wish to express the hope that the good relationship that has existed between the Storting and my father, King Harald, my grandfather, King Olav, and my great-grandfather, King Haakon, can be maintained and subsequently further developed in accordance with the tasks the country will face in the future, Haakon said.

At this first meeting between the people’s elected representatives and me as King of Norway, I wish to express the hope that the good relationship that has existed between the Storting and my father, King Harald, my grandfather, King Olav, and my great-grandfather, King Haakon, can be maintained and subsequently developed in accordance with the tasks the country will face in the future.
The Queen and I wish to affirm that we place ourselves at the disposal of the country and its people to carry out our duties. In this tradition, I too, as King of Norway, have adopted the motto «All for Norway».
