Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has announced an official investigation into Anthony Fauci following the controversial Senate hearing in Washington.
The hearing before the Senate Homeland Security Committee this week was marked by Fauci repeatedly invoking the Fifth Amendment and refusing to answer questions. According to social media, he did so 111 times. The questions concerned, among other things, funding for research in Wuhan, the handling of the pandemic, vaccines and the censorship of alternative viewpoints.
The President’s pardon covers only federal matters
Uthmeier directly links the investigation to what he describes as a lack of candour towards Congress and emphasises that the time has come to establish what happened during the pandemic.
“Fauci’s lack of transparency before Congress is astonishing. My office is opening an investigation into him. It is long past time that we learned the truth about what happened during the Covid pandemic,” Uthmeier wrote in a post on X:

Florida’s Attorney General has previously indicated that his office would examine possible violations of state law relating to Fauci’s role during the pandemic. This could include issues concerning public information, decisions affecting Florida and any potential personal gain. According to legal experts, a presidential pardon applies only to federal matters – investigations may still proceed at the state level.

Florida becomes the first state formally to open an investigation following the latest Senate hearing. It comes in the wake of an intense political debate over the handling of the pandemic.
Governor Ron DeSantis and several Republican politicians have long been critical of Fauci, while Fauci’s supporters regard the investigation as politically motivated. Their number, however, is steadily diminishing.
