A member of the “blåruss” in Bergen was attacked on 17 May by four foreigners aged 18–20, who knocked him down and jumped on him while he lay on the ground. No one has been arrested.
The lone member of the blåruss, who according to the police is 17 years old, was knocked down, kicked, beaten and jumped on while he lay on the ground by four suit-clad foreigners.
Judging on the basis of a censored video from the attack, the perpetrators appear to be North Africans. This is not the first time they have attacked someone as a group: The violence indicates extensive experience with violence, including violence against someone lying defenceless on the ground.
The attack took place in Strandgaten by the restaurant China Palace, approximately fifty metres from Burger King.
The eyewitness video, which Bergensavisen censored and posted on Facebook with comments from its own reporter, was later deleted, according to a user on X who saved it before it disappeared.
BA did not mention the violent offenders’ foreign background, and shortly afterwards saw it as necessary to delete the entire post from Facebook. The video had not been censored well enough to prevent ethnicity from becoming a topic in the comment field.
“It looked quite wild,” says Benjamin Theo Pallesen (19), who witnessed the violence, according to BT. He tells the newspaper that the apparent pretext was that the member of the blåruss “walked through a group of boys in the street”.
“Then the atmosphere became tense,” says Pallesen.
The police operations manager tells BA that the 17-year-old sustained facial injuries and was bloodied after the gang assault.
According to BT, the assault was filmed between 20:00 and 21:00, not in the early afternoon, as both BA and BT initially reported.
The reporter says that five “boys” are attacking, but it may appear that there are four active perpetrators and one ethnically Norwegian youth who makes some kind of attempt to avert the further violence. (Video: Eyewitness via BA/saved and republished by @Patriot_Bergen on X)
According to one witness, it may have appeared that the attack occurred unprovoked. The police have not arrested anyone, and say they have “recorded the personal details” of the victim, but that it is uncertain whether there will be any charges in the case.
It is the police who state that the foreigners are aged 18–20.
After receiving criticism for having hidden the video behind a paywall, BA has published an openly accessible and corrected version of the video, in which the group they initially referred to as “boys” has become “boys or men”.
17 May in Bergen was marked by large numbers of intoxicated youths and disturbances from around 15:00 onwards, especially in and around Lunds Tivoli at Festningskaien.
A mass brawl involving approximately 20 youths inside Burger King earlier in the day was broken up without significant injuries to persons or damage to furnishings.
