The Progress Party’s Jon Helgheim takes a cheeky swipe at the new Conservative Party leader.
On 17 May, a lone graduating student (russ) was subjected to a serious assault by four immigrant youths in Bergen. The video has spread throughout Norway and triggered reactions across the country. Media outlets, politicians and, not least, ordinary people have shared the footage extensively.
But the leader of the Conservative Party (Høyre), Ine Eriksen Søreide, has not seen the video.
“I have not seen the video,” the Conservative leader told Nettavisen.
“You have not seen the video?”
“I may be one of the few people in Norway who has not seen it. So I am not going to comment on its content, because I do not know anything about it.”

She also does not wish to comment on whether there is a pattern of immigrant gangs attacking Norwegians in groups.
“I have no basis for saying anything about that.”
“What if it actually is a pattern?”
“I do not wish to speculate about that.”
The Progress Party’s Jon Helgheim has faced a storm of criticism after sharing an uncensored image of the perpetrators in Bergen. He censored the image shortly afterwards and launched a fierce attack on what he considers a failed immigration policy.
But after watching Eriksen Søreide explain that she had not seen the violence video, he offered a slightly cheeky explanation on Facebook.
“Eid has just passed, now it is Pride, and offshore wind negotiations are taking place in the Storting, so I understand that the Conservative Party has been a bit busy lately 😉.
But I still think it is wise to keep an eye on what is happening elsewhere in society.”
Many people in the comments section believe that Ine Eriksen Søreide and other politicians should be compelled to watch unpleasant videos in order to understand what is happening to the country.
One man writes on Helgheim’s page:
“There are many politicians who should be forced to watch videos like these. After all, they are responsible for things having become like this.”
Meanwhile, one woman believes it is alarming that Søreide does not wish to watch the video.
“It is alarming if she, as the top leader of one of Norway’s largest parties, does not ‘care enough’ about what Norway has become to watch it. It has been EVERYWHERE. If she truly has not seen it … then she has deliberately scrolled past it in order to avoid having to confront its content … She would certainly like to become Prime Minister … but we need a Prime Minister who sees and confronts the growing gang violence. It is only luck and chance that this did not become a murder case … when someone jumps into the air and kicks a person in that way while they are lying on the ground.”
