European authorities are tightening security. The continent is most exposed to Iranian drones, missiles, cyberattacks and assassinations.
All European countries that align themselves with Donald Trump’s military operation are threatened by Iran, according to Brussels & co.
Iran has already attacked a British base in Cyprus and is causing trouble for the global economy through its attacks in the Strait of Hormuz. The United Kingdom, France and Greece have sent aircraft, warships and helicopters to Cyprus in order to protect the country from further drone attacks.
British, French and German leaders have said that they are prepared to implement defensive military measures in the Middle East. Tehran threatens to retaliate with attacks on European soil.
“It would be an act of war. Any such action against Iran would be regarded as complicity with the attackers. It would be regarded as an act of war against Iran,” said Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to Iranian state media.
NATO chief Mark Rutte warned on Tuesday that Tehran constitutes a threat that extends far into Europe.
“Let us be absolutely clear about what is happening here. Iran is close to obtaining nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles, which constitutes a threat not only to the region – the Middle East, including an existential threat to Israel – but also an enormous threat to us here in Europe.”
Iran is “an exporter of chaos” which for decades has been responsible for terror plots and assassination attempts, including against people living on European soil, said Rutte.
Defence Express, a defence advisory firm based in Kyiv, said that the Khorramshahr missile may be capable of striking targets 3,000 kilometres away if equipped with a lighter warhead, potentially bringing Berlin and Rome within range. However, it is unlikely that Iran possesses many such long-range missiles in its arsenal.
Iran is probably fairly helpless, militarily speaking. But predicting how a war will develop is pure gambling. Nevertheless, I believe the inhabitants of Berlin can sleep safely tonight. At least with regard to the threat from Iranians who are not already in the country.
The EU chooses to threaten Russia instead of the dictators in Tehran.
