After the Spanish exclave of Ceuta was invaded by thousands of young North African men, a similar invasion took place at Spain’s other exclave, Melilla.

The young men shouted “Allahu akbar!” as they forced their way into Melilla.

In Sweden, Aftonbladet reports that in Ceuta, cries of “¡Viva España!” were heard and that there were also women and children among the illegal migrants. In Ceuta, they had to swim a considerable distance in order to cross the border between Morocco and Ceuta, which extends out into the sea. Document Media has so far not identified any women in the videos recorded during the day. We did, however, observe a few younger boys who were most likely accompanying their father.

Spain’s Melilla is separated from the Moroccan city of Nador by high border fences:

After the border between the British territory of Gibraltar and Spain was eased, Muslims in Melilla argued that the same should be done there, Morocco World News reported a couple of weeks ago.

However, Melilla and Ceuta constitute the external border of both the EU and the Schengen Area, so it is unlikely that the fence will be dismantled any time soon.

As is well known, Spain granted an amnesty to what it believed were 500,000 illegal immigrants. In practice, this was done on behalf of the entire Schengen Area. However, 1.2 million illegal immigrants in Spain came forward to apply for legal residence. Those whose applications are approved will also become eligible for family reunification one year later. This is the seventh time Spain has granted an amnesty to illegal immigrants since 1986. In 2005, it granted amnesty to 700,000 people.
