A video in which influencer Büsra Sayed (28) parodied a speech by AfD politician Beatrix von Storch went viral and created what Vogue describes as “a wave that reached all the way into the Bundestag”.
Sayed runs the hijab brand Caramella, which she founded in 2023 after experiencing what she describes as a lack of quality hijab products on the German market.
“When I started wearing the hijab, the selection was disastrous: transparent scarves that were neither stretchy nor practical,” Sayed told German Vogue.
In 2026, she launched “Fitjab”, a sports hijab developed together with German-Algerian designer Meriem Lebdiri. German professional boxer Zeina Nassar serves as the product’s ambassador. Sayed was also recently a finalist in the revamped Miss Germany competition.
However, her breakthrough into the public spotlight came with the parody video of von Storch.
“The first video was an impulse. I simply wanted to respond to the statements made by our dear Beatrix,” Sayed says, adding that non-Muslim women and men also reportedly ordered hijabs in solidarity after the video.
She describes herself as a role model for young Muslim girls in Germany.
“It is high time that we had German female role models who look like me and wear the hijab,” says Sayed, adding:
“We are Germans too—even with the hijab.”
Sayed says she uses humour to deal with online hate, but reports threats, violence, and sexism to the police.
“I always leave criticism up, but I always report threats, violence, and sexism,” she concludes.
