Iran’s Minister of Defence Amir Nasirzadeh and the commander of the Revolutionary Guards, Mohammed Pakpour, are assumed to have been killed in Israeli strikes, sources with knowledge of Israel’s military operations told the Jerusalem Post.
At the same time, it is uncertain whether Iran’s leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is still alive.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is cut off from contact, and it is uncertain what has happened to him, Israeli authorities told Walla on Saturday afternoon. Iranian authorities promised to publish a recording from Khamenei shortly after Israeli strikes hit his compound in Tehran.
The preliminary assessment among Israeli authorities was that Khamenei was injured in the attack. No official confirmation has been received from Israeli, American, or Iranian sources.
The Iranian leadership is in any case severely affected:
Israeli and Iranian sources said earlier on Saturday that the strikes on Iran killed several senior commanders in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and political officials in the Islamic regime.
