Now there are also resignations from the Norwegian Editors’ Association in protest against those leaving the association because of Document’s membership. Here, the association is splitting at both ends.
Alexander Jansen, editor-in-chief of Drammen Live 24, has resigned from the Norwegian Editors’ Association.
He is doing so both in protest against the three editors at Morgenbladet and in protest against the ruling by the Press Complaints Commission (PFU):
The resignation is the fifth in a matter of days and comes in the wake of Jansen having threatened earlier this year to resign after Drammen Live 24 was found to have breached the Code of Ethics by the Press Complaints Commission (PFU). He has refused to publish the ruling.
‘I cannot accept a requirement to publish untruths, factual errors and a ruling that itself constitutes a breach of good press practice,’ Jansen writes in his letter of resignation.
He believes that the Editors’ Association has failed to safeguard his interests as a member following what he describes as unprofessional handling by the Norwegian Press Association and PFU.
Jansen also cites the Morgenbladet editors’ resignation in connection with the Document.no case, which he describes as ‘ridiculous’, as a reason for his resignation and a matter of protest.
The Norwegian Editors’ Association is to consider the membership of Document editor Hans Rustad on Friday. (NTB)
