The US military has confirmed that it has launched a new strike on Iran. Iran has warned of extensive retaliation.
Iranian media reported on Wednesday evening that explosions had been heard in several parts of the country. Explosions were reported, among other places, in the port cities of Sirik and Bandar Abbas, and near Konarak and Chabahar.
Shortly afterwards, the US military confirmed that new strikes against Iran had been launched.
– The strikes are intended to further degrade their ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) wrote on X.
President Donald Strup writes on Truth Social that the latest strikes are retaliation for Iranian attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, and that “if it happens again, it will be much worse!”
The Iranian news agency Mehr reports that explosions have been heard in Bushehr Province. According to sources cited by the Iranian news outlet Nournews, the nuclear power plant on the outskirts of the city of Bushehr was not damaged in the attack.
According to Nournews, the Iranian military says it will shortly carry out a “massive” retaliatory strike against US military bases in the region.
The strikes came just hours after President Donald Trump said at the NATO summit in Ankara that the ceasefire was “probably over”, and that there would be new, heavy US strikes against Iran on Wednesday evening.
An Iranian state television channel also reports that fragments from US projectiles struck Imam Ali Hospital in Chabahar, in Baluchestan Province. According to the broadcaster, explosions were also heard on Abu Musa Island, located in the eastern part of the Persian Gulf at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.
