Approximately 150 demonstrators met the «MAGA tourists» in Trondheim. Heated exchanges arose, but from a safe distance, writes Nettavisen.

Among the slogans from the crowd, one could hear «no fascists in our streets» and «MAGA, go home».

LO in Trondheim and surrounding areas organised the demonstration «A mega big no to MAGA in Trondheim» and encouraged all affiliated trade unions to participate.

It has previously been reported that the cruise is organised by the conservative Hillsdale College, which has close ties to the MAGA movement and President Trump.

This is however denied by a crew member, who states that this is a completely ordinary cruise, and that guests affiliated with Hillsdale constitute only a small part of the passengers, writes Nettavisen.

«Fuck you», shouted clearly provoked passengers from the balconies on board the cruise ship «Silver Dawn», after having had enough of the shouts directed at the demonstrators who gathered at the quay on Monday morning. The video clip published on Nettavisen can be seen here.

Approximately 150 people gathered at the Pier. Among them were Andreas Belbo (35) and Sigurd Elias Hestnes Vie (21), ready to meet the ship. They told Nettavisen that they are there to stand up for the community.

– We are opposed to those who believe the exact opposite of us, that the community shall not be for everyone. I think it is completely wrong of them to come here with that policy and those opinions, Hestnes Vie tells Nettavisen.

Andreas Belbo says that they do not want them here, because they do not belong in Trondheim. –This city is built on community, not division. That is why it is important to stand up and protect the rights we have.

A senior member of the crew, whom the newspaper Nidaros has spoken with, believes that the Norwegian media coverage of the so-called «MAGA cruise» is based on factual errors. Nettavisen writes:

– It is pathetic. The media has just swallowed the story raw without checking what a newspaper wrote. This is a completely ordinary cruise with a small group from this college. We have Norwegian and Swedish guests, as well as 20 other nationalities, claims the man.

According to the company Silver Sea’s website, the ship «Silver Dawn» will sail the same route twice more this summer. Prices start at around 75,000 kroner.

Nidaros has posted the story on Facebook, and many are outraged at the way the Americans were received:

Shameful behaviour towards our guests in the city. One does not behave like that towards others. Shame on you, writes Harald.
