A 22-year-old with a foreign background has been arrested by Spanish authorities on Gran Canaria, charged with the rape of a girl under the age of 16 in Oslo. The man was internationally wanted by the Norwegian police and was arrested less than 24 hours later.
The 22-year-old is also charged with conspiracy to commit murder (drapsforbund) on 21 February this year. He is alleged to have attempted to commission an arson attack against a residence in Oslo, for payment.
The rape of the minor girl in Oslo took place on 10 September 2025.
In Norwegian media the man is referred to as a “Norwegian”, but footage from the Policía Nacional on Gran Canaria shows what is most likely a North African. In comments in the Spanish press he is described as Moroccan.
The Spanish press confines itself to describing the man as a “citizen of Norway”.
He was arrested on 26 February in the popular hotel area of Puerto Rico, a one-hour drive from the regional capital Las Palmas on Gran Canaria. The arrest came less than 24 hours after the arrest warrant for the EU area was issued by the Norwegian police.
There was intelligence information that the wanted person was staying in Spain, and the Spanish police were therefore contacted directly.
The arrest is said to have taken place in a tourist apartment, without danger to other tourists, according to Canariajournalen.no. The man is said to have attempted to conceal himself by disposing of his mobile phone and had no identification papers on him when he was apprehended, according to Maspalomas Ahora and Canarias7.
The 22-year-old’s extradition case to Norway is now being handled by a national court in Madrid, while the 22-year-old remains in custody on remand.
Another man from Morocco is also currently present in the Norwegian news picture:
