While Danish PM Mette Frederiksen is negotiating with Trump on Greenland, a bomb explodes in Odense, destroying four flats and forcing 30-40 people to leave their homes in the middle of the night. It illustrates that Mette Frederiksen has no control over her own territory. Neither does Trump in Minneapolis and in his own legal and political system. But while Trump is aware that he is at war, neither Mette, Kristersson nor Støre will admit it. That’s the difference between Western Europe and the US.
It makes a difference that the war is being waged against buildings where many innocent people live. It’s a form of terror that the gangs engage in. The level of punishment should, of course, reflect that, but it doesn’t.
At 2.29am, the bomb went off, triggering a fire, and shivering people stood out in the cold in their nightwear. Firefighters, ambulances and police were massively present. But the story doesn’t get the coverage it deserves.
It is civil peace that is being torn to shreds. Berlingske is more concerned with Trump and typically so: TV2 believes that Trump is behind the unrest in American cities and that he has a plan.
This is not the first time gangs have used bombs in the area. Before Christmas, an extensive trial took place against three men who had planted a mega-bomb on the same road where the explosion on Sunday night took place.
The court in Odense is dealing with a case involving an attempt to detonate 4.4 kilos of dynamite in front of a building on Nyborgvej in Odense. Three men have been charged in the case, which is scheduled for 13 court days.
The attempts took place on the night of 28-29 December and again on 30 December 2023. They were stopped by a random patrol car just seconds before the bomb was detonated.
Earlier this year, four men aged 18 to 20 were given long prison sentences in the case.
