Aller Media, which owns Dagbladet, is acquiring a 30 per cent stake in Subjekt. Editor Danby Choi promises that this will have no impact on the newspaper’s editorial independence.
In addition to Dagbladet, Aller Media owns Se og Hør, KK, SOL.no, Kode24 and Elbil24. The major players are buying up smaller newspapers to strengthen their portfolio of editorial brands.
The press release does not mention who initiated the deal.
The investment combines the purchase of existing shares with the injection of new growth capital, and marks the start of a strategic partnership between the media group and the independent cultural newspaper, it is stated.
Danby Choi will continue as editor. He is also the largest shareholder.
He emphasises that the ambition to challenge power and established truths remains unchanged.
However, Subjekt will now be regarded by many as part of the establishment.
