Joshua Kerry (28), who is already charged with the murder of Reform MP Ann Widdecombe, has now also been charged with preparing to commit a terrorist offence. Nigel Farage was among the alleged targets.
British counter-terrorism police announced the new charge on Friday 2 October. Kerry, who is from Rotherham in South Yorkshire, is accused of preparing terrorist acts between 31 May 2024 and 8 July 2026.
The police explicitly state that the preparations were directed, amongst others, at the MP and Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.
“We have been conducting a very intensive and complex investigation over a long period of time,” says Vicki Evans, national coordinator at the British counter-terrorism police.
She stated that investigators, analysts and forensic experts have been working on several lines of inquiry. Kerry is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 7 October.
The 28-year-old has previously been charged with the murder of Ann Widdecombe (78), a former Conservative minister and later a spokesperson for Reform UK. She was found murdered at her home in Devon on 9 July.
As part of this investigation, the police also reopened a case concerning an alleged attempted burglary at a property linked to Farage in April 2025, according to Sky News.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) subsequently launched an investigation into whether a member of the counter-terrorism unit had failed to identify and follow up on a relevant lead.
The police’s new press release does not specify any concrete ideological motive or how the alleged terrorist acts were to be carried out. The charge does not constitute a finding of guilt.
