It is Sweden in a nutshell: A 13-year-old shot six people in Gävle last year. He cannot be punished because he is too young.
The boy standing trial is charged with six counts of attempted murder committed in Gävle on the night of 4 October last year. He cannot be sentenced to imprisonment because of his young age. The boy was only 13 years old when he carried out the attempted murders with which he is charged.
Six young people were shot and wounded in the lower body, some of them under the age of 18. All survived.
According to the prosecution, as many as 29 people were put at risk when the boy fired nine shots on Södra Kungsgatan in Gävle. All are regarded as injured parties in the case. (NTB-TT)

The accused 13-year-old had been on the radar of the social services for some time and associated with several individuals linked to the criminal milieu in Gävle.
A total of nine shots were fired. Shortly after the shooting, the 13-year-old was arrested on suspicion of having fired the shots. The prosecutor has now brought charges against him, reports Aftonbladet.
“Given that the dangerous range of the weapons used extends in the direction of fire to at least 1,000 metres, I assess that a total of 29 people were in serious danger of being struck, and they are therefore regarded as injured parties,” said Senior Prosecutor Jenny Örn, who is leading the investigation.
According to the investigation, none of the injured parties in the case were the intended targets.
“Instead, the investigation indicates that the act was carried out on behalf of another person, and one individual has been remanded in custody in absentia, suspected of complicity in attempted murder in connection with this incident.”
Örn is referring to Ali Shabab, one of the leaders of the Foxtrot network. He has been remanded in custody in absentia by several district courts in Sweden, suspected of a number of serious crimes, and has been wanted by the Swedish police for several years.
Earlier this year, he was arrested in Iraq, where he is suspected of having stayed for some time while directing criminal activities and young perpetrators in Sweden.
Aftenposten wrote in November that Shabab has been linked to a 16-year-old who was taken into the care of the Child Welfare Services (Barnevernet) in Stavanger. He was sentenced to 15 years of preventive detention.
