Norway are through to the last 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a 2-1 win over Ivory Coast in Arlington, Texas, on Tuesday.
Antonio Nusa put Norway ahead in the 39th minute with a curling finish into the top corner, giving Ståle Solbakken’s side the breakthrough after a tight opening half. Ivory Coast responded after the break through Amad Diallo, who came off the bench and levelled the match in the 74th minute.
The decisive moment came late. Erling Haaland scored from close range to restore Norway’s lead and send the Norwegians into the next round. The goal was also reported as Haaland’s 60th for Norway, reached in just 53 international appearances.
Norway had restored several first-choice players after rotating heavily in the 4-1 group-stage defeat to France. Haaland, Martin Ødegaard and Alexander Sørloth all returned to the starting line-up, while Ivory Coast made three changes from the side that beat Curaçao.
Ivory Coast pressed for another equaliser during stoppage time but could not force extra time. Their World Cup run ends after the country reached the knockout stage for the first time.
Norway now face Brazil in the last 16 in New Jersey.
