A Christian centre that supports Israel in the Dutch city of Nijkerk was subjected to a bomb attack on Friday evening. There have been several such attacks in the Netherlands in recent times.
Israel Center, which is run by a Christian group working to strengthen ties with Israel, often organises lectures about the Jewish state and sells products produced in Israel.
The centre has previously been subjected to anti-Israeli actions, such as vandalism in the form of graffiti on the building or demonstrations nearby. Director Frank Van Oordt stated, however, that the apparent bombing represented a drastic escalation.
“People who come to express their dissatisfaction have the right to demonstrate. That is fine,” he said. “This is an attack. We have never experienced anything like this.”
Israel’s ambassador to the Netherlands, Zvi Vapni, added: “First Jews were subjected to threats and attacks in the Netherlands. Now Christians who support Israel are also being attacked.
“This explosion at the Christenen voor Israel centre in Nijkerk is not an isolated incident: these perpetrators must be apprehended and punished. This is the only way to deal with fanatics who seek to spread fear and hatred.”
