We lack nuance in the debate on the war in Ukraine. Far too many politicians and analysts are allowing themselves to be guided by emotions in this horrific…
Olfi.dk is a website primarily dedicated to defence and security policy. On Saturday, the editor, Peter Ernstved Rasmussen, wrote an editorial in which he outlined paths to peace in Ukraine. He then received a request from Defence Minister Jeppe Bruus to withdraw the editorial.
Rasmussen reacted with shock and disbelief: a minister is interfering in what an editor writes in an independent, free media outlet.
He says that Danish public opinion is being subjected to brainwashing and indoctrination.
It is a dangerous development when the political system, the country’s media and prominent commentators share the same stance and vilify those who hold a different opinion.
He writes this in an opinion piece in Jyllands-Posten.
It was perhaps no coincidence that it was the Danish Prime Minister who publicly criticised Støre for having spoken to Putin.
Støre said on the radio on Monday that Mette Frederiksen is categorically opposed to any contact with Moscow.
Rasmussen begins his editorial as follows:
There is no point in labelling everyone who tries to bring nuance to the debate on Ukraine as ‘Putinists’. Two-thirds of the Ukrainian population want to negotiate an end to the war with Russia ‘as soon as possible’. It will be painful, but the alternative is worse, as it risks triggering the Third World War and potentially destroying Ukraine as an independent nation.
