A group comprising former hostages and relatives of the 7 October victims is demanding the release of all documents relating to that fateful day. They accuse Netanyahu of concealing documents so that the brutal truth has not come to light.
The demand comes after Netanyahu’s former military secretary claimed that the Prime Minister gave an incomplete account of the events surrounding the Hamas-led attack, and that the Prime Minister’s chief of staff attempted to alter an official report.
In addition, it was reported on Sunday that the police have evidence that Netanyahu’s chief of staff, Tzachi Braverman, unlawfully removed around 30 classified documents relating to security discussions from the Prime Minister’s office, allegedly in an attempt to influence the narrative surrounding the failures that led to the Hamas massacre on 7 October 2023.
“Recent investigations raise serious suspicions of forgery of official documents and manipulation of evidence,” the families said in a statement.
“We will not accept that the truth about the most serious failure in Israel’s history remains locked away in a safe – hidden, distorted and replaced by a version designed to serve those under scrutiny for their responsibility,” they say.
“This includes the alleged forgery of official documents, the selective publication of extracts from minutes – which creates a misleading impression of what was said, what was known and what was decided – as well as the withholding of original recordings”, they say.
There is thus a parallel between 9/11 and 7 October. In the US, an official commission issued a report, but it failed to mention that the hijackers from Saudi Arabia had internal support – not from the government as such, but from parts of it. Just as in Israel, the bereaved are demanding the whole and complete truth.
