Secretary of State Marco Rubio has formally been appointed Trump’s National Security Advisor in addition to his role as Secretary of State. It is a powerful dual role. Rubio has grown with the responsibilities and is today one of Trump’s most trusted men.
He is constantly fielding questions from the press, which is keen to probe disagreements within the upper echelons of the administration. Rubio recently spent three days in the Emirates.
Rubio is unique. Only one person has previously held the dual role of Secretary of State and National Security Advisor: Henry Kissinger under Richard Nixon.
Rubio took over as National Security Advisor after Michael Waltz embarrassed himself in connection with the Signal group chat that was exposed in The Atlantic.
The National Security Advisor heads a group of 400 staff who provide the President with advice and information. He sets the parameters, and the President must be able to trust the advice he receives 100 per cent.
Rubio, with his Cuban heritage, is particularly concerned with Latin America and Central America. Seven countries now have right-wing governments.

Seventy million Americans have Latin American backgrounds, 25 per cent of the population. Rubio is a symbol that it is possible to rise all the way to the top, that ability is what counts, not skin colour.
