A healthcare worker who was sitting on a bench outside his workplace in Málaga was unprovokedly subjected to everyday jihad with a knife by a passer-by from North Africa. The deep cut ran from his nose to his neck.
– We see how Málaga is changing, and it makes us afraid. This happens often, and in an extremely bestial manner, says the victim’s sister.
The brother received an 18-centimetre-long cut that was so deep he can barely speak. He had to be stitched with 30 stitches twice before the wound closed.
The cut went just above the carotid artery and could have been fatal if it had been one centimetre deeper, according to the doctors.
The attack was reported in the newspaper SUR on the same day that the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez presented a package worth over 500 million euros for the reception of the more than one million immigrants who are now applying for visa amnesty.
El Mundo:
The package will cost 505 million euros in its first year. Of this, 30 million will go to programmes intended to help immigrants improve their skills in the official languages and increase their knowledge of our norms and values. The goal is to improve “cohesion and coexistence in neighbourhoods and cities”.
Andalucía, where the provincial capital Málaga is located, has a centre-right regional government. Nevertheless, immigration is ubiquitous.
The attack on the 45-year-old Spaniard is, as the sister mentions, just one of many examples where ordinary working people must bear the consequences of immigration policy.
The man was due to start a night shift and had parked his car a few minutes earlier. He sat down to wait on a bench outside his workplace. Since 2022, Spanish hospitals and public institutions have not been allowed to cool their premises below 27 degrees, so the climate outside in the evening is often more comfortable than the indoor break room.
While the father of small children is sitting on the bench, a man described as coming from the Maghreb region in North Africa approaches silently from behind. Without warning, the North African slashes the healthcare worker’s face and neck.
The attacker was wearing sandals, a long-sleeved black hooded sweatshirt and a white bum bag. He can be described because the victim noticed the unusually warm clothing when he saw him on the street shortly before the attack.
The perpetrator has still not been caught. The attack took place on 24 June.
– He is broken, sleepless, has anxiety and great pain, cannot bear to go out and can barely speak. This has marked him for life both physically and psychologically, says the victim’s sister according to the newspaper Diario SUR.
She emphasises that it was not an attempted robbery, but a random attack. The brother is now receiving psychological help.
– He grabbed his face with one hand and held on while he cut with the other, the sister recounts.
A motorcyclist who stopped said that the attacker had shortly before attempted to rob his wife at an ice cream parlour nearby. There the public intervened, and a scuffle broke out in which chairs and motorcycle helmets were thrown.
It was probably during his escape that the North African shortly afterwards encountered the 45-year-old.
– What we want is for there to be less crime, more police patrols and more controls on the streets in our neighbourhoods. This time it was my brother, tomorrow it could happen to anyone, says the sister.
The family is now appealing to the public for tips that can help solve the case.
