Four persons – one Norwegian and three Swedes – have been sentenced to prison terms of approximately eight years for the import and sale of 98 hand grenades. The transport is what is causing a stir: An Eastern European courier carried the grenades in a rolling suitcase on board a train as an ordinary traveller. Those around him had no idea that they could have been pulverised. That is the new reality in Scandinavia.
The courier checked into a hotel in Malmö with the hand grenades, bought a new suitcase and handed over the “goods”. The 21-year-old Norwegian man was to take care of marketing and sale.
The transport itself took place on 30 March last year. The Norwegian citizen was arrested and extradited on 2 April.

A Norwegian man (21) in his twenties has been sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment and lifelong expulsion from Sweden for involvement with 98 illegal hand grenades and the sale of automatic weapons on the illegal market.
The Norwegian was one of four defendants in the case, writes NRK.
He is considering appealing. The three other defendants were Swedish citizens and were sentenced to eight years and ten months, eight years and four months, and six years and four months in prison respectively.
The public prosecutor Magnus Pettersson says that this is the largest case of its kind where a verdict has been handed down in Sweden. The Norwegian’s role in the network was to market and sell the grenades, which were smuggled into Sweden on 30 March 2025.
He was arrested in Norway on 2 April this year and extradited to Sweden. As of today 62 of the 98 grenades have been found. They originate from the former Yugoslavia and resemble the type used in the explosion in Pilestredet in Oslo last autumn.
