The Iranian regime is suspending negotiations with the United States because Israel is bombing Lebanon. It is the Revolutionary Guard that decides.
“Given that the crimes of the Zionist regime in Lebanon continue, and considering that Lebanon was one of the preconditions for the ceasefire – which has now been violated on all fronts … the Iranian negotiating delegation is suspending the talks,” Tasnim stated.
The state-affiliated media outlet, which is linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, also warned that Iran would once again block the Strait of Hormuz and “activate other fronts, including the Bab el-Mandeb Strait”.
Tehran had warned that a ceasefire in Lebanon was a prerequisite for securing a peace agreement with the United States, and the suspension of the negotiations marks a dramatic collapse of nearly two months of talks.
The decision came after Benjamin Netanyahu ordered new strikes against Beirut on Monday.
The Israeli Prime Minister ordered attacks on targets in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, a Hezbollah stronghold known as Dahiyeh, in retaliation for alleged ceasefire violations by the terrorist group.
At the same time, Hezbollah has agreed to a ceasefire proposal through American mediation.
Hezbollah has accepted a United States proposal for a “mutual ceasefire”, according to the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon.
“The Lebanese authorities have received confirmation that Hezbollah has accepted the American proposal for a mutual ceasefire,” a statement from the embassy, published by the Lebanese presidency, said.
“Under the proposed arrangement, Israeli attacks on Dahiyeh will cease in exchange for Hezbollah refraining from carrying out attacks against Israel, and the ceasefire framework agreement will be expanded to cover the entirety of Lebanese territory,” the statement added, referring to Beirut’s southern suburbs.
