Four migrants were killed after being burned alive in a car at a petrol station in Amendolara in the southern Italian region of Calabria.
Two Pakistani men have been arrested in connection with the murders, AP reports.
It is worth noting what NTB chooses to downplay in its coverage. The fact that the two suspects are Pakistanis is mentioned almost in passing, as a parenthetical detail at the end of the report. Had the suspects been white Europeans attacking migrants, there is little doubt that ethnicity and background would have featured prominently in the coverage from the very first sentence.
The attack was captured by surveillance cameras. The footage, published by broadcaster Rai, shows the attackers pouring liquid into a parked car before setting it alight. One of the perpetrators then attempted to prevent the car doors from being opened. One man managed to escape and was treated for burn injuries at a nearby hospital.
The victims worked as agricultural labourers. Three of those killed were Afghan nationals, while the fourth was Pakistani.
