The Norway-based human rights group IHRNGO reports that the regime continues to arrest civilians who are under suspicion of belonging to the opposition or being in the service of foreign powers. The accusations are often vague and built on paranoia. The regime sees enemies everywhere and uses dragnet methods that sweep up both like and unlike. This maintains fear among the population and may be one of the reasons why there have been no new mass demonstrations. It is certain death.
When the anti-Trump faction interprets the silence as support for the regime, it is wishful thinking. It means the exact opposite. Twelve-year-olds with submachine guns manning checkpoints are not to be taken lightly.
But the day the Revolutionary Guard flees we will likely receive an indication of the will to resist.
Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam leads IHRNGO. He reports that Mehdi Farid was hanged today.
The executions continue: #Mehdi_Farid was executed this morning, charged with espionage for #Israel. He was from Arak and worked in Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation when he was arrested. Despite reports that he had fully cooperated with the authorities, Mehdi was initially sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran. Following an appeal, after a trial on 28 July 2025, he was however sentenced to death by Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court on account of espionage for Israel. Since 18 March, 18 people have been executed in Iran: 2 on account of espionage for Israel, 8 members of the Mujahedin-e Khalq organisation and 8 from the December demonstrators! #No_To_Execution
Fox News:
Iranian authorities have arrested more than 3,600 persons on the basis of charges related to the war between the United States and Israel, according to the organisation Iran Human Rights.
The charges are said to include everything from sharing videos with foreign media to the use of Starlink internet terminals.
The Norway-based organisation Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO) stated that the figure was based on reports from state media and its own research, but that the actual number of arrests “was likely much higher”.
The organisation stated that at least 3,646 persons had been arrested since the war broke out on 28 February.
The human rights group also stated that at least 767 of the cases were reported after the ceasefire entered into force on 8 April.
“The charges against the imprisoned mainly include espionage, communication with foreign intelligence services, transmission of images or coordinates of sensitive locations to foreign media, as well as attempts to establish operational cells or carry out armed activities,” IHRNGO stated.
