Progress Party (FrP) leader Sylvi Listhaug believes Norway must suspend the Schengen Agreement with Spain.

The background is Spain’s lax immigration policy, which culminated in the migrant crisis in Ceuta and Melilla, where 60,000 migrants crossed the border into the country in a single day.

Listhaug believes Norway should follow Italy, which has suspended the Schengen Agreement with Spain for an initial period of one month, NRK reports. Several other EU countries are considering doing the same.

“Quite simply, this is about the fact that, for the past ten years, they have pursued an immigration policy that has been naïve, that has contributed to making it appear that more people are coming, and this is placing Europe’s external borders under severe pressure,” said Listhaug.

The statement came during her speech on Monday at the summer camp of the Progress Party’s Youth (Fremskrittspartiets Ungdom, FpU).
