Do not speculate. Do not jump to hasty conclusions. And whatever you do: Do not get angry, writes Brendan O’Neill, political writer for the British newspaper Spiked.
Yes, a woman is dead and several are critically injured after they were run down by a van and stabbed in Berlin last night. But now we have more details about the suspect. His name is Abdul. He is allegedly an Islamist. And you know what that means, warns O’Neill. You must dampen the rage and stifle the anxiety. Do not be Islamophobic. And for heaven’s sake, shut up.
One senses the indignation in Brendan O’Neill, and the same indignation sits within us. These attacks are not merely a recurring reality across the entire continent; we are not even allowed to call them what they are. So we are to shut up, exactly as the script demands.
NRK with full damage control
The news from Berlin is horrific, continues O’Neill. As so often with Islamist attacks, the mass stabbing followed the vehicle attack. The suspect, whom the police call Abdul B., is said to be a German citizen of Lebanese background. In the BBC’s cautious formulation he is described as an IS supporter and known for connections to Islamist circles:
But remember: we do not know the “attacker’s motives”. That is what virtually every media outlet says. And do not dare to speculate. Do not even think, and still less say aloud, that Islamists harbour a burning hatred of homosexuals and the freedom they enjoy in the “kaffir” West. Just post the crying emoji on social media and forget about it.
If anyone sat through NRK’s Kveldsnytt after the attack on Saturday, O’Neill is spot on. It was embarrassing to watch how the presenters actively explained the attack away, and repeatedly insisted that it could be a possible sudden illness.
Is there anyone else who is tired of playing this game? asks O’Neill. Tired of having their mind controlled? Tired of being labelled troublemakers merely because one hates violent Islamism? Tired of being manipulated by spineless bureaucrats and suicidal leftists who claim that Islamism is not the greatest threat? Tired of being called intolerant because one’s stomach turns at the sight of girls blown to pieces in Manchester, rockers shot dead in Paris and shoppers run down in Barcelona?
Yes, we are tired of this game. It is not played out only in O’Neill’s England. It happens across the entire continent, including in Norway. All terror involving Islam is to be excused, talked away, preferably not mentioned by name, and finally swept under the carpet together with the victims.
Mental illness most often becomes the dominant explanation. The ideology is played down, so that the story can be buried as a tragic psychosis rather than a warning about an ideology that cultivates death and destruction. When O’Neill describes the aftermath of every single such attack, he is speaking both to us and about us, in Norway, in Britain and across the whole of Europe:
It happens every time: First comes the apocalyptic violence, then public opinion is muzzled. We are forbidden to hate the religious hysterics who murder our fellow citizens. Already now the self-righteous are muzzling themselves in reaction to the events in Berlin. Gender-intoxicated activists who consider it “violent erasure” to say “he” about men in dresses issue the most cowardly statements about this real, violent erasure of homosexuals from the streets of Berlin.
And just as in Norway, the reactions and the debate would have been entirely the opposite had the attack been carried out by right-wing extremists. In Britain the new Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Chris Bryant, says that the attack in Berlin shows why we still need Pride. – Does it show anything else as well, Chris? asks O’Neill. – Such as that Europe is now infected by an ideology that hates our way of life, our free women and our liberated homosexuals?
The leader of the Greens, Zack Polanski, sends all his love and solidarity to Berlin. Every single one of us knows that if this atrocity had been carried out by neo-Nazi skinheads, Polanski would have said more than that. Much more, O’Neill asserts:
But it is a suspected Islamist attack, and therefore, as a faithful servant of the bourgeois impulse to crush popular concern over Islamism, he in effect says not a damn thing.
A day late and a dollar short
The same plays out in Norway. From politicians, from the media and the politically correct left. Even though Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre this time surprised many with his unusual openness about the ideology behind the attack. But it is unfortunately a day late and a dollar short, as they say in America.
In a Facebook post the Prime Minister wrote:
The Interior Minister of Germany has confirmed that German police are investigating the attack in Berlin as an Islamist terrorist attack. Islamist extremism has no place in our society. It is a life-threatening ideology that we must combat.
In their open threat assessments the Intelligence Service and the PST have pointed out that this is also one of the terror threats against Norway. We stand together with Germany and the queer movement in the fight for freedom, against extremism and violence.
A kind of admission, but a tame reaction compared with his rhetoric 15 years after 22 July, and other killings that allegedly stem from right-wing extremist ideology. That this is not everyday fare from Gahr Støre is evident from the comment field, where many point out that he is finally admitting Islamic extremism. Svein writes: – Well look at that, there he woke up and acknowledges the actual circumstances.
And the Prime Minister chose his words in the post carefully when he wrote: – In their open threat assessments the Intelligence Service and the PST have pointed out that this is also one of the terror threats against Norway. One of? Well knowing that Islamist terrorism is the greatest threat, both in Norway and across the whole of Europe. But as we saw both before and after the commemoration of 22 July, it is the right-wing extremist ideology we are to fear.
This is the pattern Brendan O’Neill describes in Spiked, and Norway follows it slavishly. Right-wing extremism is named, amplified and treated as an existential threat to the nation. Islamist extremism is all too often explained away, medically explained or wrapped up in concerns about Islamophobia. Politicians send love and solidarity when the victims are queer, Jewish or simply European, but they rarely confront the ideology that continually produces the attackers.
They ignored the Islamic plague
When O’Neill writes: The self-styled righteous of the West haven’t only turned a blind eye to the Islamist pox, they’ve inflamed it, he is also speaking about our leaders, who ultimately are responsible for having created a monster that cannot be tamed. Whether it concerns Britain, Sweden, Norway or any other European country:
The self-styled righteous of the West have not only turned a blind eye to the Islamist plague, they have also inflamed it. They crushed free discussion of Islamism, which further strengthened this utterly abhorrent ideology. They demonised its critics as racists, and made them fair game for the hatred and even the violence of Islamist ideologues.
O’Neill provides a perfect summary of Norway through the decades, the politicians, academia, the left in general, and not least the media, especially the Islam-friendly NRK. Decades of terror have not dampened the demonisation of those of us who saw the writing on the wall long ago.
And the worst is that they not only continue to demonise the critics of Islam, but also continue to import people from MENA countries, well aware of the damage it has caused our countries and our people. “Creeping Islamisation” belongs to the past, if such a thing ever existed at all. Now the Islamisation of Norway is in full swing, and none of those who had the power to stop it lifts a finger.
So Prime Minister Gahr Støre may now pretend that he is honest about Islamist terror, but one paragraph on Facebook will not make up for the irreparable damage he and the country’s politicians have inflicted upon our country. O’Neill continues to mirror the situation in Norway perfectly, and here the Labour Party and most of the parties in Norway are also guilty:
And since 7 October 2023 they have marched shoulder to shoulder with Islamists who openly called for the return of Muhammad’s army to put an end to the Jews, and the rest of us as well.
O’Neill wonders whether the self-hating freaks in “Queers for Palestine” will wake up now. Will they realise that they have allied themselves with religious extremists who would execute them for their sins? He is not optimistic.
At Berlin Pride, where the terrorist attack took place, Palestinian flags fluttered in the wind. At a Trans Pride in London on Saturday, Sarah Jane Baker, the former convicted trans activist, took to the stage shirtless, with the words “Free Gaza” written in red beneath her “disgusting” male breasts.
NRK: Pride and Islam in perfect harmony
We have no reason to be optimistic in Norway either. During Pride this year the Palestinian flag fluttered proudly side by side with the pride flag. Not a single Norwegian flag to be seen. It is probably no coincidence that NRK has just chosen this image for its timeline about Pride. They too live in a fantasy world in which Islam and Pride exist in perfect harmony.
And the state broadcaster’s fantasy world is, as O’Neill puts it: a clear sign of the madness that has infected the West:
These gender-fluid Gaza supporters with keffiyehs on their heads and open leather trousers at the bottom are the scariest evidence of the madness of the modern West. They adorn and support an ideology that hates them. They are virtually suicidal admirers of the most violent homophobes on earth. They embody the West’s own death wish.
O’Neill does not excuse the left’s alliance with the Islamists as ignorance or naivety, as so many do. He sees the shameful collusion with the Islamists who hate Israel, Jews, America and Britain as a microcosm of the West’s institutionalised self-contempt.
To hell with the censorship authorities. To hell with the anger police. Openness is crucial now, O’Neill writes finally:
The truth is that hundreds of people in Europe have been slaughtered by Islamists. They were killed for the “sin” of liking pop music in Manchester, having a pint in London or celebrating Pride in Berlin.
Norwegians have paid for Islam’s sins
Those who paid with their lives at the London Pub lived, according to Islamic doctrine, in sin. Not only homosexuality, but everything we stand for, Islam rejects. But if we are to speak of the sin of Pride, we must not forget Norway’s most high-profile Islamist today, Fahad Qureshi.
The radical Salafists who have been given open permission by our spineless politicians to Islamise our country until there is nothing left. When Qureshi said a few years ago that all Muslims believe homosexuals deserve the death penalty, he meant it then, and he still means it.
The left tries to place the blame on Document, GB News or other conservative media and individuals for the hateful rhetoric against homosexuals, but it stems directly from the Koran and their hateful dogmas.
But even though the London Pub terror is the only attack officially classified as Islamist in Norway, what about all the other ordinary Norwegians who have been killed over the years by perpetrators from foreign continents? On buses, in shops, in the street, at the doctor’s, at the NAV office, in their own homes.
How many questions have we refrained from asking because the answers have been too uncomfortable? If they really are of unsound mind, why do they not kill their own? Several of them lived in asylum reception centres and had every opportunity to attack there. Instead they sought out innocent Norwegians and slaughtered them.
Because Allah commanded them to, as the Muslim man said after stabbing three women in Paris on Monday?
Europol has for years warned that jihadist attacks are often carried out with simple means: knives and vehicles used against crowds. Norwegians have been killed, mutilated and traumatised, and more may be. Yet every concern is met with demands for silence.
At the heart of our societies there exist ideological milieus that wish to tear down the society we have built, writes O’Neill. And our passive leaders and weak borders only make the problem greater. Once again he describes Norway in a nutshell.
O’Neill does not want more bouquets of flowers replacing action. No more accusations of Islamophobia used to stop a necessary debate. What is needed now is full freedom of expression and measures that actually protect the citizens.
We would wish that O’Neill’s words gained traction. But the signs are not good. For the next attack may happen in Norway. And then we will probably hear the same again: That the perpetrator was a lone wolf. That he was mentally ill at the moment of the act. That he was not doing so well.
Then we are told that we must not draw hasty conclusions. We must dampen the rage and stifle the anxiety. Do not be Islamophobic. And for heaven’s sake, shut up.
