A 78-year-old woman caught two burglars in her own home. When one of them threw her onto the sofa, she kicked him in the groin. The Romanian man has now been convicted – and is to be deported from Sweden.
It happened on 4 April this year, in a remote house in the countryside in the municipality of Sjöbo in Skåne, reports Samnytt reports.
When the pensioner came home, she heard that someone was on the second floor. She pressed the SOS button on the alarm. Shortly afterwards, a man wearing a cap and a beard approached her and tried to snatch her handbag. In the living room, he grabbed her and threw her onto the sofa.
The woman did not give in.
“I kicked him in the groin whilst I was lying on the sofa. The kick must have landed a proper blow, because they left after that,” she explained during questioning.
The man was 30-year-old Gabriel Boscordea from Romania.
The pair nevertheless managed to make off with jewellery, trophies, perfume, cash, a coin box and a CCTV camera, with a total value of 31,340 Swedish kronor. They then broke into another house. From there, cigars, watches, jewellery, cash, a wallet and a rucksack were stolen.
The 78-year-old suffered visible injuries to her thumbs. According to the police investigation, she is struggling with sleepless nights and high blood pressure. She hardly dares to leave the house, for fear that someone might break in whilst she is away.
Ystad District Court has now convicted Boscordea of two counts of burglary, attempted aggravated theft and minor assault. He was sentenced to one year and eight months’ imprisonment. He must pay the 78-year-old 16,500 kroner in compensation.
The verdict reveals a long criminal record. In December 2019, he was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for aggravated theft. In Denmark, he has been convicted four times since 2022, for a total of 13 thefts and for illegal entry or residence. The most recent sentence, handed down in June 2025, was one year and three months’ imprisonment.
The court refers to the repeated reoffences and states that no penalty other than imprisonment is appropriate.
Once he has served his sentence, Boscordea is to be deported. After ten years, he may re-enter Sweden.
