NRK veteran Anders Magnus launches a frontal attack on the Socialist Left Party (SV) for failing to challenge patriarchy within Islam.
The book *The Dark Side of Immigration* by journalist Anders Magnus is the subject of Tuesday evening’s NRK Debatten.
SV politician Marian Hussein was in the studio, where she claimed, amongst other things, that immigration had been a success, and faced strong opposition from both FrP politician Erlend Wiborg and Høyre politician Mahmoud Farahmand.
Document recently featured an in-depth interview with Anders Magnus. You can watch the interview here:
Magnus called for a clear break with the patriarchal structures within Islam from the SV, which describes itself as a feminist party.
– If the SV had wanted to, its leaders could have gone into the mosques and spoken about honour culture, social control and the fight against such control. That would have been something! But she doesn’t do that. Instead, she just goes in to talk to the men. SV has never taken a stand against patriarchy within certain immigrant clans, he said on NRK Debatten.
SV’s Marian Hussein believed she had addressed the issue by demanding that mosques have women on their boards.
– Why don’t you challenge patriarchy? As for the hijab, it is a garment used for religious control. It says in the Qur’an: ‘Tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts, and not to display their adornments.’ This is a garment designed to keep women’s sexuality under control. If you wear a hijab, it shows that you are under the control of a man, said Magnus.
