– How has the UK become so scandalously lenient towards terrorists? The latest low point is that on Monday the British authorities released five terror suspects on bail.
The five men who were arrested near RAF Fairford on Sunday have been released on bail. They remained in custody until Monday.
On Monday afternoon, the head of the counter-terrorism police, Laurence Taylor, confirmed that the five arrested men had been released following extensive questioning and investigations.
During a press conference, Taylor said that the investigation is not over.
“They are subject to strict conditions regarding their movements and contact with others. They are certainly still under investigation, as we are exploring several lines of inquiry,” he said.

President Trump told reporters on Monday that the release was shocking.
– I’ll tell you what, I would have said: Don’t let them out on bail, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
– “I’m surprised they released them. I wouldn’t have done that. Listen, they (the British) have been very good. They’re working very closely with us. We know everything about them (the detainees). We wouldn’t have released them,” said Trump.
Welcome to the UK
There is a lot of criticism of the British justice system on social media.
– ‘Welcome to the UK’s “judicial system”’, writes End Wokeness, pointing out that Danny Tommo, who damaged a boat used to transport migrants, was denied bail.
Meanwhile, five terror suspects were released on bail following an alleged plot to bomb a US airbase.
How did Britain become so obscenely terror-friendly?
In light of the swift release, the editorial team at the New York Post asks in an editorial : How has Britain become so scandalously terror-friendly?
The latest low point, according to the newspaper, is that on Monday the British authorities released five terror suspects on bail. They were arrested after getting within just a few hundred metres of RAF Fairford, a base housing US bombers used in operations against Iran.
According to the New York Post, the five could have got even closer had a local farmer not spotted them.
This comes at a time when Tehran has threatened the UK with consequences should the country continue to allow US warplanes to operate from British bases.
The farmer has said that she had previously complained about security around the base. She is also said to have contacted the Ministry of Defence after spotting intruders, but her reports were ignored. The slow response may have enabled some of the suspects to escape.
This comes at the same time as the UK has granted refugee status to a man with links to Hamas, even though his connection to the terrorist group was known. He was still granted leave to remain in the UK after he was later accused of being involved in a German terrorist plot.
Decades of a highly liberal immigration policy have led to large numbers of migrants arriving in the UK from countries and communities with a history of terrorism.
Grooming gangs are cited as another example. Girls could be abused for years whilst the police failed to intervene for fear of being accused of intolerance.
The investigation into the incident at RAF Fairford is far from complete. At the same time, the treatment of the Hamas member shows just how far the government is willing to go in its handling of individuals with links to the terrorist group.
The man was a bodyguard for Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and the son of another senior Hamas figure. He was arrested in Egypt in connection with a tunnel used to smuggle weapons into Gaza.
The arrest was later used as grounds for him being granted asylum in the UK. The German authorities accuse him of having played a central role in plans for attacks against Jewish centres, Israeli diplomats and participants in pro-Israeli demonstrations around the second anniversary of Hamas’ terrorist attacks on 7 October 2023.
Over the years, Hamas members have established themselves in the UK. Until 2021, the UK had only imposed sanctions on Hamas’s military and terror-related activities, not on the group’s political leaders.
At the same time, MI5 has set the UK’s terror threat level at ‘severe’, the second-highest level after ‘critical’.
The Labour government, meanwhile, brands its critics as narrow-minded and hateful.
The New York Post’s conclusion is that the question is no longer whether the UK can become more terror-friendly.
We’ll just have to wait and see.
