Armed men killed more than 20 people in attacks on villages in Zamfara State in north-western Nigeria on Wednesday, according to local officials.
This is the opening paragraph from NTB, which evidently wants to push terms such as jihadists and Islamists to the bottom of the article. Anyone who is even moderately well informed knows who is behind the terror in Nigeria, which particularly targets poor Christian farmers.
Nasiru Lauwali, a local government official in the Sauna district, said 21 people were killed when armed men began shooting at around 3 p.m. District secretary Alhaji Shehu Garba said five villages were attacked and that a total of 23 people were killed, most of them farmers.
Three people with gunshot wounds were taken to hospital, Garba added.
The attacks are the latest in a series of violent incidents attributed to gangs that have terrorised the region for years. They underscore the lack of security in the country’s north-west and central regions, where armed gangs – locally referred to as bandits – carry out deadly attacks, in addition to stealing livestock and abducting residents before demanding ransom. Far down in the article, NTB has to acknowledge that the authorities and security analysts believe that some of the violent gangs cooperate with militant jihadists. Much suggests that most of the violent gangs actually are militant jihadists.
The armed gangs in this part of the country are primarily motivated by economic gain and espouse no ideology, but the authorities and security analysts are concerned that ties are being formed between some of the gangs and militant jihadists.
In north-eastern Nigeria, the authorities are fighting a long-running jihadist insurgency. In addition, there are separatists in several parts of the country.
NTB writes that the violence is driven by economic gain and absolutely no ideology. These are areas where the terrorist group Boko Haram operates. It is closely affiliated with the Islamic State (IS).
Our Foreign Minister, Espen Barth Eide (Labour), does not appear to be particularly engaged by the killings of thousands of Christians in Nigeria either.
This is a classic example of no Jews, no news. Only the United States and the Trump team appear to care about what is taking place.
