Tulsi Gabbard is stepping down as Director of National Intelligence out of consideration for her husband, who has been diagnosed with cancer. There will be speculation that political disagreements also lie behind the decision.

“Unfortunately, I must resign from my position effective 30 June 2026,” she wrote. “My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer.”

The former Democratic congresswoman from Hawaii also thanked President Trump for “the trust you have placed in me”.

Tulsi Gabbard has sought to uncover the forces behind Russiagate and the rigging of the 2020 election. She has delivered several scathing reckonings with Barack Obama.

But Trump voters will want to see people held accountable, no matter how high up it goes.
