The police say they have no idea why the twenty-year-old was shot just outside Lørenbanen on Sunday evening in front of neighbours and players. The most shocking aspect is that neighbours report that they do not dare to testify for fear of being recognised.
At the same time, several of those VG has spoken to say that they are afraid to come forward with their names or images. What they have in common is the fear of being approached by individuals connected to the shooting.
This is Oslo in 2026. People are afraid of men/boys with weapons.
This is a pattern we recognise from Sweden: fear has taken hold of the population. They no longer dare to say what they see. As a result, a crucial factor in police work has fallen away: cooperation with the public.
Fear marks that trust in society is eroding. People are reduced to passive witnesses.
