The Far Left is inspired by France and is calling for a large-scale youth strike across Norway on 20 November.
Jaime Manuel Fuentes of Rød Ungdom is currently in France taking part in demonstrations and has been inspired. Now Rød Ungdom, together with Sosialistisk Ungdom and Humanistisk Ungdom, is organising a ‘youth strike’ across the country.
They are offering the prospect of ‘political absence’ to anyone who might wish to skip school for a day.
This is to be part of an international youth strike, in which they are putting forward several key demands:
- The dissolution of NATO
- An end to military build-up and greater prioritisation of welfare.
- Abolition of all forms of compulsory military service, including voluntary military service.
- Breaking ties with states accused by the far left of genocide, such as Israel.
- An end to ‘fossil capitalism’ and radical systemic change.
The methods listed on the international website include demonstrations, walkouts from classes, meetings, protests and ‘blockades and occupations’. In other words, blocking roads and shopping centres or occupying buildings.
The campaign was launched in a video posted by Rød Ungdom featuring deputy leader Jaime Manuel Fuentes, who is responsible for international and anti-racist affairs within the youth wing. He says the following in the video:
– I am in France, where tens of thousands are demonstrating today as part of the general strike. In Norway, we’re going to do the same on 20 November. Join us in striking against war, against rearmament and for better welfare.
Humanistisk Ungdom in Greater Oslo has organised an event and will meet the day before to paint banners. They’re offering the incentive that participants will receive documentation they can show to their school to apply for leave on political grounds.

Rød Ungdom has also secured Eidsvolls plass in front of the Storting, where a youth strike against ‘war, rearmament and militarism’ is to be held. Following ‘speeches and cultural performances’, they will march in a procession.
