In the wake of Espen Teigen’s small piece of mockery directed at Sofia Rana, who believed Freia’s Eid/Iftar chocolate was an far-right “hoax”, one felt a need to hear directly from Freia:
I cannot quite believe that Freia is so disconnected from the spirit of the times that the company has not realised that pushing ‘Norwegian Eid/Iftar milk chocolate’ is not very welcome; you make the Muslim minority in Norway distinctly unpopular at a time when more polarisation is not needed; moreover, you expose Freia – and the milk chocolate ‘a little piece of Norway’ – to an obvious consumer boycott; has Freia now become so woke that the company nevertheless wishes to destroy its own brand? Lucky that you receive the feedback now, so that you can drop the idiocy before Eid/Iftar? And if not, you deserve the backlash.
Freia replies; that is to say, Freia exists only as a brand name, so the “reply” is from the owner, “Mondelez Norge AS”:
Thank you for your e-mail.
Freia’s spring campaign will contain 26 different sharing messages on the packaging. One of these is a sharing message related to Ramadan, as Ramadan falls in February and March next year.
Because of high sales volume in December, we had to release some of the volume with the spring campaign’s message earlier than planned.
We appreciate your interest in our products, and we always value such feedback.
Well, apart from the fact that the questions remain unanswered. But we know the answer: Freia / Mondelez has become woke and intends to curry favour with Islam.
On Freia’s milk chocolate it reads:
The one who invited to Eid
And who is the one who invited to Eid? Allah, of course. Eid al-Fitr is the feast prescribed by Allah as a reward and celebration after the completion of Ramadan, and described by Muhammad in the hadiths as a replacement for earlier unbelieving customs.
And which unbelieving customs? Christmas and Easter, for example.
Not only that; on the right-hand side of the milk chocolate it reads:
The one who prepared Iftar
And who is the one who instituted the Iftar meal that breaks the Ramadan fast? Allah again.
Even a liberal Muslim will tell you that Muhammad was Allah’s “final prophet”, and that this “status” – as the final one – surpasses Christianity.
Freia has always had a Norwegian profile, and has used “milk from Norwegian cows” in its branding. At the same time, Islam’s loud intruders have made themselves increasingly visible in Norway. Freia’s owners, or at least Norwegian consumers, ought instead to take note of another personal pronoun, in one of Norway’s most famous patriotic hymns:
Fagert er landet du oss gav…
Who is du? Du of course refers to God – the God of the Bible.
A later verse reads
Likjest vårt folk i mager jord
We are speaking of a people who built themselves up from centuries of foreign rule, from poverty and simple conditions, to form a welfare state, and who, as soon as it becomes prosperous, has the capacity to share with others. But do the “new foreigners” possess the capacity for moderation? Reciprocity? Gratitude?
We do not expect a foreign woke company such as Freia/Mondelez to understand the irritation, but when Norwegians are being deprived of Norway – their birthright – and formerly Norwegian-profiled companies begin to worship other gods – and moreover such an evil god as Allah – it should only be expected that Norwegians are reminded that God gave Norway to the Norwegians – and that present-day Norway came into being thanks to our forefathers, our traditions, our Christianity and our cultural history. We have no other fatherland, and when uninvited guests force their way into our home, partake coarsely of our fruits, and even begin to claim both the house, its rules and traditions, it is hardly surprising that the party soon comes to an end, and that the unwanted, loud, ill-mannered guests are asked to go home.
We are now in the phase where we ask politely. It would be advantageous if Norway’s EU proconsuls, global brands in Norway, and uninvited guests who believe that the wind in the sails of the state means fair winds, understand the weather forecast now.
We give the final word to the British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan, who in 1960 delivered the famous “Wind of Change” speech that signalled the end of the British colonial era:
The wind of change is blowing through this continent. Whether we like it or not, this growth of national consciousness is a political fact.
The wind of change is blowing through this continent. Whether we like it or not, this growth of national consciousness is a political fact.
Happy New Year!
