US President Donald Trump says that the Board of Peace has reached an agreement with Hamas on full disarmament. Once Hamas has fulfilled its obligations under the agreement, Israel is to withdraw from Gaza.
Hamas and all other armed groups are to be disarmed, Trump writes on Truth Social.
Today, the Board of Peace has reached a HISTORIC agreement on the COMPLETE DISARMAMENT of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza. This is a monumental step towards lasting PEACE and SECURITY.
This agreement is a decisive step towards Gaza finally being governed by a new Palestinian government that will work closely with the Board of Peace to help the Palestinian people. At the same time, Israel will receive the security it deserves, as Gaza will no longer be used as a base for terrorist attacks.
Trump thanked the mediating countries Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye for their efforts, writing that this is an important milestone in the implementation of the peace plan for Gaza.
According to the AFP news agency, Hamas has confirmed that it has reached an agreement with Israel, adding that further information will be released soon. An Israeli official later said that the Board of Peace’s 15-point disarmament proposal did not meet Jerusalem’s demand for the complete demilitarisation of Gaza, according to the Times of Israel.
“There will be no withdrawal of the IDF from the Yellow Line in the Gaza Strip until Hamas has been disarmed and the Gaza Strip has been completely demilitarised,” the Israeli official added.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government recently raised these objections with the Board of Peace’s envoy, Tony Blair.
It therefore remains unclear whether Trump’s agreement will be implemented.
