Trump says that the Revolutionary Guard must decide: comply with the agreement or go down with the ship. The USA carried out new attacks on Iranian radar, air defence and missile batteries last night after Iran for the second time attacked a ship in the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time they also attacked Bahrain. Trump has all the Gulf countries behind him when he puts Iran in its place.
“American planes have just attacked Iranian missile and drone storage facilities, as well as coastal radar stations, because they have AGAIN broken the ceasefire agreement!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“If there comes a time when we can no longer act reasonably, we will then be forced to complete the task we have with great success begun, with military means”, he added. “If that happens, the Islamic Republic of Iran will no longer exist!”
Iran is testing America’s resolve. First they attacked the Singapore tanker M/V «Ever Lovely» on Friday. That triggered a limited American response. On Saturday Iran escalated by attacking M/T «Kiku». The Americans then responded with a more comprehensive attack.
Iran says it is the USA that is breaking the agreement. That is why they strike back against American bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, they say.
But there is little doubt about who attacked first. The USA does not attack civilian shipping.
A CENTCOM spokesman says that the Iranians had a chance to de-escalate. They did not seize it.
The official stated that the attacks are directed at Iranian air defence systems, storage facilities for drones, cruise missiles, target radars, mine-laying capacity and ground-to-air missile systems.
“It is a larger attack than last night”, the official told Fox News.“Iran had a chance to stop shooting … and they did not take advantage of it”, the official said. “Instead they attacked another ship in the Strait of Hormuz this morning, MT «Kiku».”
The Gulf Cooperation Council supports Bahrain and condemns the treacherous attack from Iran. Iran is isolated, and the Gulf countries want the USA to stand firm and finish the job.
The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on Saturday called Iran’s drone attack on Bahrain “treacherous”, and added that it shows that the regime in Tehran is trying to undermine the peace process in the Middle East.
“His Excellency Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, expressed his strongest condemnation and rejection of Iran’s treacherous attack with a series of drones against the Kingdom of Bahrain”, the GCC stated in a statement.
“His Excellency pointed out that the Iranian regime’s continued attacks on civilian facilities and vital infrastructure, in light of international and regional efforts to strengthen security and peace and resolve the crisis, confirms its desire to undermine initiatives aimed at limiting the crisis and to hinder all efforts to achieve security and stability in the region”, the statement added.
Members of the Gulf Cooperation Council – which consists of Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates – met Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Bahrain this week.
