Ukraine has carried out a large-scale drone attack against Moscow’s largest oil refinery, and the Russian military has not succeeded in shooting down all of the drones. The refinery is on fire. The Russians are experiencing problems with fuel supplies across the vast country. Fuel must be transported over long distances to compensate for the loss of capacity.
Putin is under pressure. The drone war is becoming increasingly costly, and the question is whether the response will be escalation or compromise.
180 drones heading towards Moscow are reported to have been shot down.
A residential apartment block in the capital region is also reported to have been hit. The authorities say that no injuries have been reported.
The information from Sergei Sobyanin that a refinery has been subjected to a drone attack was reported by the state news agency Tass.
Witnesses told Reuters that flames and thick black smoke were visible above the Kapotnya district in south-eastern Moscow.
Traffic on one of Moscow’s ring roads near the oil refinery has been halted following the attack, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs stated, according to the state news agency RIA.
According to Sobyanin, around 180 drones heading towards Moscow were shot down. A total of 555 Ukrainian drones were shot down in several Russian regions during the night to Thursday, according to the Russian state news agency Interfax.
