Neighbours describe strong tremors. “The house shook noticeably,” says Kjetil Andre Tofteng, who lives nearby, to VG.
In the same time period as the explosion occurred, a video was published on the embassy’s Google Maps page showing the deceased ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, who was killed in American and Israeli attacks last weekend. “God is great. We are the victors,” the user writes in Arabic.
The police confirm that they are examining the video, but will not comment further.
The Police Security Service (Politiets sikkerhetstjeneste) states that the threat picture for American interests in Norway has not changed, and remains at a moderate level – despite the police viewing the incident as a targeted attack.
Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre called the incident “very serious and entirely unacceptable”.
